“He’s world-class” – Heurelho Gomes raves about this Spurs ace

Even the most optimistic of Spurs fans wouldn’t have given their team a chance of getting to the final four of the Champions League particularly when they looked down and out after their first three group games.

While several players have stepped up during Tottenham’s terrific run in the competition, few players have done as much to help the team over the course of the run as Tottenham skipper Hugo Lloris.

The Spurs No.1 came up with some vital saves in both legs against Manchester City in the quarterfinals as well as in the round of 16 ties against Borussia Dortmund.

The Frenchman has had a difficult season as he has been criticized for some of the errors he has made in big games. Some Spurs fans have even called for the 32-year-old to be dropped in favour of Paulo Gazzaniga through the season, but the World Cup winner has proved his quality once again of late.

Former Tottenham stopper Heurelho Gomes, who played with Lloris during his time at the club, has showered praise on the Spurs captain.

Speaking to beIN Sports France, Gomes said, “Hugo has some ups and downs, but it can happen to anyone – he’s a world-class goalkeeper, and the penalty kicked against City made the difference – without that stop it could have been different.

“He is a very good goalkeeper that I appreciate.”

Spurs Web’s take:

While Lloris has arguably had his most difficult year in a Spurs shirt, he has certainly redeemed himself with some of the saves he has made in the last couple of months.

All players go through blips in form but it tends to get highlighted more with goalkeepers since their mistakes directly lead to goals. It looks as if the Frenchman has come through the difficult spell and is once again back to his best.
