Heung-min Son admits he loved one player even before he joined Tottenham

Son Heung-min has revealed that he had been a fan of James Maddison for a long time and admitted that he is thoroughly enjoying playing alongside the attacking midfielder.

Some players just fit into certain clubs like hand to glove and that is certainly the case with Maddison at Tottenham.

Spurs have had a history of creative midfielders with flair, which is why it has not taken a long time for supporters to fall in love with the 27-year-old.

Even though the England international only arrived at the club last summer and spent nearly three months on the sidelines with an injury, it already feels like he has been playing for the North London club for a long time.

It is a testament to Maddison’s leadership qualities that Ange Postecoglou made the midfielder vice-captain last summer even though he had just arrived at the club.

Heung-min Son is a big fan of Maddison

Son has now admitted that it is a pleasure to play alongside the former Leicester man and insisted that there is more to come from his teammate.

The Spurs captain told TNT Sports: “[James Maddison] is a fantastic boy. He is still a young guy and not in his prime. We’re working really hard and we also have a very special connection. Before he joined Spurs, I loved him.

“I loved him because he was a similar player to Christian Eriksen, I would say. I always followed him because I liked this kind of player who is making a game with his quality, creating chances, scoring goals, make those runs. For me, he was very, very special… I really enjoy playing with him. I want to make him an even better player.”

I have to admit that I had the wrong impression of Maddison as a person until he joined Spurs, perhaps due to the arrogance he shows on the pitch. However, it is clear that the 27-year-old is a great guy and he is evidently quite popular among his teammates.
