Heung-min Son admits one Tottenham match upset him while he was away with South Korea

Son Heung-min has admitted that he was heartbroken to see Tottenham being eliminated from the FA Cup when he was away at the Asian Cup but insisted that he and his teammates are now dreaming of doing ‘something special’ in the Premier League.

The FA Cup represented Tottenham’s best chance of breaking their trophy drought this season, which is why Spurs fans were quite frustrated by the fact that the club went out of the competition with a whimper against Manchester City last month.

City would have certainly been delighted at the fact that they did not have to play against Son, who has a terrific record against Pep Guardiola’s side.

Tottenham essentially only have one game a week to look forward to until the end of the season and Ange Postecoglou insisted last week that his side will have their eye on the big prize until it is mathematically impossible for them to reach the summit of the Premier League table (Football.London).

Son made the difference for the Lilywhites on his return on Saturday, setting up the winner with a brilliant assist to help the home side emerge with a crucial three points against Brighton.

Heung-min Son was sad about Tottenham’s FA Cup exit

Speaking after Tottenham’s 2-1 win, the South Korean told NBC Sports: “It’s very sad when I was away we went out of the FA Cup and now we have only one game in a week, so it’s kind of now you have to see the reality and give the best.

“Now there is only a few moments left until the end of the season but we don’t want to talk about the future already, we just want to give the best as a team we can, and see where it takes us. We can’t promise but we will do our best to make it something special.”

By the sounds of it, there is belief in the Tottenham dressing room that they can chase down the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool this season.

The fact that Postecoglou now has nearly a fully fit squad to choose from and has just one game a week will help, but realistically, we have to be near perfect to have a chance of doing the impossible, particularly given the form City are in.
