Heung Min Son claims he almost left Tottenham for this reason

Tottenham Hotspur were left to endure six long weeks without their star attackers Harry Kane and Dele Alli throughout January and February.

It looked as if Spurs would really struggle for goals during this time, especially with Heung Min Son leaving for international duty for the second time this campaign.

However, Sonny returned early after South Korea were knocked out of the Asia Cup, and picked up where he left off for Tottenham.

Son was banging in the goals left, right, and centre, scoring 11 since December 19, and more than carrying the weight of Kane’s absence on his shoulders.

It is rare to see the winger without a smile on his face, on or off the pitch, but Sonny has now revealed of his discomfort when first joining Tottenham.

After the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Son had started just 13 League games for Spurs, scoring four goals, with Poch not yet trusting him as a consistent first team fixture.

Son has admitted he knocked on Pochettino’s door and asked for a move back to Germany.

Sonny said (Standard): “I came close to leaving. I went to the gaffer’s office and told him I didn’t feel comfortable and wanted to leave for Germany.

“The gaffer trusted me and I am so grateful. He made my dream come true. I am more than grateful [to him] — it is difficult to say. I have worked four years with the gaffer. It is just amazing.”
