Heung-min Son explains why being captain of Tottenham is ‘really easy’

Son Heung-min has admitted that the transition to being captain has been quite a simple one for him as his teammates are making his job a lot easier.

While Son has been one of the most popular members of the Tottenham dressing room for quite a while, the South Korean was not always seen by everyone at the club as a natural leader, which is perhaps why he was not part of the club’s previous leadership group.

Ange Postecoglou decided to hand the experienced forward the armband and he has since stepped up to the plate, with Football.London’s Alasdair Gold revealing that many at the North London club have been ‘taken aback’ by how the former Bayer Leverkusen man has taken to the leadership role.

Son’s leadership qualities were in evidence on Saturday as he pushed Richarlison to the front during the post-match celebrations to ensure that the Brazilian received the accolades he deserved from the supporters (Mirror).

When asked about the additional leadership responsibility, the Tottenham man has now told Football.London: “Because I have good players and also amazing people around me, it makes my job really really easy for me.

“I don’t try to be harder or difficult in a different way. I just want to be a good example by actions.

“I’m not the guy who is always talking and leading by words. I try to be a good example to everybody but having this group of players is making my job really, really easy.”

Son seems like the kind of empathetic leader that modern-day players would prefer rather than the old-school, ultra-professional type, who can sometimes have trouble connecting with certain players in the dressing room.
