Heung-min Son has changed Tottenham’s summer transfer plans – Journalist

Dean Jones has said that Tottenham Hotspur will prioritise signing a winger this summer rather than a centre-forward since Son Heung-min has shown that he can operate as a number nine.

Son has excelled when he has operated as centre-forward this summer, with the South Korean posing a major threat with his ability to play on the shoulder of the defenders and get in behind.

Richarlison himself has also been in exceptional form over the last few months, leading the line impressively and proving that he is a reliable goal threat when he is fully fit and firing.

However, reports over the last couple of months have indicated that the Lilywhites will enter the market for a marquee number nine when the transfer window opens in the summer (Football Insider).

Brentford’s Ivan Toney (The Sun), Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez (Mirror), Lille’s Jonathan David (HITC) and Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee (TMW) have all been mooted as potential targets for Spurs over the last few weeks.

Tottenham will look to sign new wingers this summer

However, Jones believes that Tottenham are more likely to prioritise signing a top-quality wide player, backing Ange Postecoglou to use Son primarily as a number nine next season.

The journalist said on Ranks FC Podcast about the Tottenham captain: “I think he will revert to being more of a forward player through the centre. Tottenham in terms of recruitment this summer may actually look more for wide attackers rather than a proper number nine, and that’s because Son has been so effective.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I do think that Tottenham will be in the market for a centre-forward but they might settle for a young, up-and-coming striker to serve as an understudy to Richarlison and Son.

I expect the club to spend the bulk of their summer transfer budget on a top-class number six and a skilful winger who is good at beating his man.
