Tottenham Hotspur have appointed Heung-min Son as their new club captain for the 2023/2024 season in place of Hugo Lloris, The Athletic are reporting.
The captaincy had been taken over by Harry Kane during the Asia-Pacific tour and the subsequent fixture against Shakhtar Donetsk, which proved to be the 30-year-old’s final appearance for the North Londoners in the 5-1 win against the Ukrainian outfit.
Lloris has not featured for Tottenham with the French World Cup winner currently seeking a move away from the club after eleven years.

Heung-min Son is Tottenham captain
The striker has plenty of experience with the captain’s armband, having also taken up the role at international level for South Korea.
Central defender Cristian Romero and recent signing James Maddison have been appointed as vice-captains, with the trio considered to be good characters.
Tottenham kick off their Premier League campaign tomorrow afternoon at Brentford.

Son is deserving of the captain’s armband given the service he has given Tottenham over recent years. Some may raise an eyebrow that Eric Dier has been overlooked as an assistant captain, given the fact he has captained the side on a number of occasions in the past but now sees Romero and Maddison considered ahead of him.
