Heung-min Son is set to return to Tottenham after Asian Cup exit

South Korea have crashed out of the Asian Cup at the semi-final stage with defeat to Jordan, meaning Heung-min Son misses out on glory once more. However, the good news is, he may be ready to return to the Spurs squad at the weekend.

Spurs have been without their influential captain since the turn of the year, with Heung-min Son leading South Korea at the Asian Cup in Qatar. Nevertheless, the Lilywhites have coped fairly well in the absence of their top goalscorer over the last month.

While many Tottenham fans were wishing for an early exit for Son and his country, South Korea managed to make it to the last four and the swell of support from North London appeared to shift to a more positive backing of Son to lift the trophy.

Sonny is coming home to Tottenham

Sadly, it wasn’t to be, and Son will be heading back to London imminently, after seeing his side fall to a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Jordan.

Son played the full 90 minutes, but was unable to make a difference as South Korea dominated possession without managing a shot on target throughout.

It remains to be seen whether Son will be passed fit for Saturday’s game against Brighton and Hove Albion at all, but with days to spare, there is now every chance that the 31-year-old will at least be included in Ange Postecoglou‘s matchday squad.

Spurs Web Opinion

This is a real shame for Sonny, and he will be gutted to fall at this hurdle. I was desperate for him to go all the way and win the tournament, as it would have meant so much to him. Hopefully, this defeat doesn’t deflate him too much, and instead it could well drive him to chase success at Spurs even more as we head into the back end of the campaign.
