Heung-min Son just broke a new all-time record for Spurs in the Premier League

Son Heung-min created history against Newcastle United by becoming the player with the most assists for Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League era.

Son, who at times cut a frustrated figure up front over the last few weeks, was back to his aggressive and energetic best against Newcastle United after Ange Postecoglou decided to move him to his familiar left-wing position.

The forward tormented Kieran Trippier for much of the game, leaving his former Tottenham teammate for dead before picking out Destiny Udogie and Richarlison in the box respectively for the home side’s first two goals.

Heung-min Son breaks PL assist record for Spurs

Those two assists against the Magpies mean that Son now has the most assists for Tottenham since the inception of the Premier League.

According to TRB Football, the Spurs captain took his assist tally to 83 on Sunday, thus overtaking Christian Eriksen who managed 82 during his six and a half years at the North London club.

The 31-year-old is also the third-highest goalscorer in Spurs history behind Harry Kane and Jimmy Greaves (Transfermarkt).

Son will very likely end up with more goal contributions than Kane for Spurs. He is certainly showing no signs of decline and if he plays for the club for another four years, he could even potentially have an outside chance at breaking Kane’s goal record.
