Heung-min Son reveals what happens if you don’t follow Antonio Conte’s instructions

Speaking after the Champions League clash with Frankfurt on Tuesday night, Tottenham Hotspur star Heung-min Son has revealed what Antonio Conte is like behind the scenes, and what the consequences are if you don’t follow his instructions.

Conte is approaching a year in the job at Tottenham and is perhaps facing one of his more difficult periods in charge of the north London club. A somewhat uninspiring start to the season has seen plenty of victories, but poor performances on the pitch.

Spurs surrendered their unbeaten start to the domestic campaign with a highly disappointing defeat at Arsenal over the weekend. Hoping to bounce back, the Lilywhites could only manage a 0-0 draw against Frankfurt in Germany on Tuesday night.

Heung-min Son perhaps typifies this stuttering start to the season for Spurs. Last season’s Premier League Golden Boot winner has struggled in front of goal this term, with just three goals to his name (Transfermarkt), all coming in one spectacular cameo appearance in the top flight against Leicester City.

Speaking to the media (via Football.London) after the Champions League clash, Son insisted there is no question marks over Antonio Conte’s management, and explained how all the players understand that following Conte will make them winners.

“It’s important [to listen to him]. We saw last season that nobody believed we would be here right now. Last season nobody believed we’d be in the Champions League,” Son said.

“The gaffer always wants more, more, more and as I player I want to follow his way, or you know what’s coming. If we don’t follow him then you know you struggle. We have to follow, there is no option because he’s a winner and I think this is what we do – sacrifice and do the hard things,” he continued.

“Sometimes after the game we’re all happy and sometimes we’re all angry or frustrated. The gaffer is more passionate, if we win he’s the happiest guy in the world, but if the performance is not good, he’s the first one blaming himself and wanting to improve,” Son added.

Spurs Web Opinion

There should be no doubts over the fact that Antonio Conte can lead this club to glory. He’s a proven winner, and has already taken the club so far in just under a year. He’s changed the whole mentality of the players, and that’s something that was really holding us back before.

We just need to be patient at this difficult time, and trust that Conte and his players will ultimately recapture the form of last season and start putting in better performances. Something hasn’t quite clicked yet this year, but it will eventually.
