Heung-min Son was asked during an interview with Sky Sports this week whether he feels that Tottenham can win the Premier League title this season.
Such talk seemed rather appropriate a couple of weeks ago when Spurs were coming into a match against Crystal Palace off the back of two wins and a draw against Man City, Arsenal and Chelsea respectively.
At that time, the Lilywhites were indeed top of the table, ahead of Liverpool on goal difference heading towards Christmas.
However, a 1-1 draw against Palace, followed by back-to-back defeats against Liverpool and Leicester City, has seen Tottenham fall behind the chasing pack.
At the start of this weekend, Spurs were sixth in the Premier League table, now six points behind Liverpool, proving how much can change in just seven days.
Despite this, Son was keen to point out that nothing was impossible when it came to the Premier League, adding that it is too early to tell who is going to win.
He said (Sky Sports): “Obviously. Nothing is impossible. At the moment, it looks quite tight. There’s a long way to go. We have to be focussed, we have to be ready, fight every single point. This is our aim, we’ll see.
“That’s why everyone loves the Premier League. There are no free points. Every single game, every single week, it’s a hard day. We have been contenders before when Leicester won the title. So, it’s too early to say at the moment. We want to be focussed and try to win every single game.”
Spurs Web Opinion:
You certainly cannot rule Tottenham out of the title race this season, but it appears that Jose Mourinho’s side do not yet have the perfect balance or consistency to pick up the necessary points across an entire season.
