Heung-min Son says everybody is ‘very happy’ for one Spurs star after Palace win

Son Heung-min has admitted that he and his Tottenham teammates are delighted that Timo Werner finally managed to get on the scoresheet in the 3-1 win over Crystal Palace.

While Werner had made a decent start to his Spurs career since arriving from RB Leipzig in January and had picked up a couple of assists, a goal was continuing to elude him.

It looked like the German’s wait for a first Tottenham goal was going to go on for a bit longer after he failed to convert a couple of big chances on Saturday.

One of those misses was particularly frustrating for Spurs fans as the 27-year-old was played through on goal and after doing the hard work by almost rounding the goalkeeper, he allowed Sam Johnston to still make the save.

However, Werner did eventually get his reward as he turned the ball home to score the home side’s equaliser on 77 minutes after Brennan Johnson beat a couple of players on the right and picked him out in the box.

Tottenham squad are happy for Timon Werner

The relief in the face of the on-loan RB Leipzig was palpable but he had no time to celebrate as the Tottenham players rushed the ball back to the centre circle in order to continue chasing the match-winner.

When asked about Werner’s goal, the Spurs captain told Spurs Play after their win over Palace: “Yeah when you’re missing a big chance like that, you feel like the world is against me.

“But Timo stepped up fantastically. He didn’t give up and then he played fantastic for me. Everybody is very happy. I hope Timo enjoyed that goal. I think everybody’s happy for him.

“As I said before, Timo shouldn’t never celebrate this goal because the fans and the players are expecting more from him. I hope he continues to work hard and help the team.”

That goal was huge for Werner as his confidence would have really taken a hit if he had failed to score in that game after missing the chances that he did. A huge monkey is now off the forward’s back and Postecoglou will be hoping that this strike opens the floodgates for the 27-year-old.
