Heung-min Son says one ‘clever’ Tottenham teammate is a ‘joy to watch’

Son Heung-min has heaped praise on James Maddison for the impact he has made at Tottenham, describing the midfielder as a ‘joy to watch’.

There was plenty of excitement among Spurs fans when Maddison arrived at the club as the Lilywhites had been missing a natural playmaker since Christian Eriksen departed over three years ago.

However, it is fair to say that the former Leicester City man has surpassed most expectations with the way he has started his career in North London.

Given the way in which the 26-year-old combines so effortlessly with Tottenham’s attackers and midfielder players, it seems like has already been at the club for a long time, which is perhaps a testament to his footballing intelligence.

Son has now stated that he is enjoying playing with someone as ‘clever’ as the former Leicester City man. The Spurs captain also admitted that he already started celebrating before Maddison unleashed the curled effort against Burnley on Saturday to put the away side 3-1 up at the time.

Heung-min Son is a big fan of James Maddison

When asked about the England international’s strike at Turf Moor, the South Korean told Spurs Play: “This is special from him. In that position when he shoots, I was already celebrating because his right foot is a joy to watch.

“The passing, the movement, the way he sees the game I think he’s very clever so I think he controls the game on the ball and even off the ball. I’m very happy, he’s always stepped up and I think he’s been playing fantastic this season.”

The Maddison-Son partnership is one I see flourishing over the next couple of years, particularly if the South Korean continues playing through the middle.

The 26-year-old’s vision and passing range when combined with Son’s movement is certainly a deadly combination that opposition teams will struggle to cope with.
