Heung-min Son snubbed from PFA Team of the Year despite winning Golden Boot

Son Heung-min has failed to make the PFA Team of the Year despite winning the Premier League Golden Boot, while Harry Kane also failed to make the cut.

Son has arguably had the best season of his career to date, finishing with 23 goals and nine assists (Transfermarkt), thus sharing the Golden Boot with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.

The South Korean managed to win the award despite not being Spurs’ designated penalty taker but he was still overlooked during the nominations for the PFA Player of the Award, which was won by Salah.

Even more inexplicably, the Tottenham forward has not been named in the PFA Team of the Year, with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mane and Bernado Silva making the cut ahead of him.

Kane also missed out on the Team of the Year despite finishing the campaign with more goal contributions than the likes of Mane and Ronaldo.

Here is the PFA Team of the Year for 2021/22:

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no question that both Son and Kane deserved to make the Team of the Year but the fact that they did not make the cut is not evidence of an “agenda against Spurs”.

I find grown-ups, who believe that there is a conspiracy against their club, to be embarrassing. The problem with the PFA awards is the way the voting is structured, which is why it never goes to deserving winners.

Firstly, it is voted for by the players (who simply vote for those who played well against their team) and secondly, most of the voting is done around February, which means that those who have a strong finish to the season, as Son did, do not get their dues.
