Tottenham sealed their position in the pot for the fourth round of the Carabao Cup last night, as they inched ever so slightly past Watford on penalties.
The game was played under the floodlights of Stadium MK, Tottenham’s temporary home for the evening, with Wembley busy and the new stadium unfinished.
The normal Tottenham boards surrounded the stadium, featuring the badge, ‘come on you spurs’ and ‘to dare is to do’, which gave it a real old White Hart Lane feel.
One player who would have felt right at home was Dele Alli, who played in MK for his youth career before being picked up by Tottenham.
Dele captained the side on his Milton Keynes return, and led Spurs to a 4-2 penalty shootout win.
Watford took the lead in the second half through Isaac Success, before Spurs hammered in successive goals through a Dele penalty and a delightful breakaway chip from Lamela.
The Hornets then equalised at the death with a cruel deflected shot by ex-player Etienne Capoue, sending the game to pens.
However, Spurs were to remain triumphant, after slotting away all four of their efforts, with hero Gazzaniga picking up two saves along the way.
