Highly-rated academy player signs first professional contract on 18th birthday

Tottenham youngster Aaron Skinner celebrated his eighteenth birthday on Sunday by penning his first professional contract with the Lilywhites.

According to Football.London, the young centre half came through the ranks at Bury’s academy representing the club all the way from Under-12 up to Under-18 level.

He caught the attention of several clubs with his performances in the 2018/19 campaign, playing a key role as Bury’s Under-18s reached the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup that season.

Skinner was snapped up by Tottenham last November and has shown fantastic promise in the short time he has spent at North London so far.

He has already featured nine times for the clubs Under-18s this season (transfermarkt.com) and has looked composed and commanding at the back.

It looks like Skinner is certainly highly thought of by those at the club as they wasted no time in handing the defender his first professional contract as soon as he turned eighteen.

The youngster took to Instagram to reveal his delight at signing the deal.

Spurs Web Opinion

A number of our young players including Malachi Fagan-Walcott, Troy Parrott and Dennis Cirkin seem to be in and around the first-team. Jose Mourinho has already shown that he is more than willing to hand young players opportunities as seen by Tanganga’s emergence. Hopefully, it can inspire the likes of Skinner to catch the Spurs boss’ eye.
