‘His family is loyal’ – President makes claim on Spurs-linked attacker

Athletic Club Bilbao president Jon Uriarte claims the Spanish side remain confident that rumoured Tottenham target Nico Williams will sign a new contract at the club.

Williams has emerged as one of the best young attacking talents in La Liga over the last few years and has become a regular for the Spanish national team.

90 min reported a couple of days ago that since the 21-year-old’s current contract at San Mames runs out next summer, quite a few Premier League clubs, including Spurs, were monitoring his situation closely.

The report added that the player is also of interest to Arsenal, Liverpool and Aston Villa, while also naming Bayern Munich and Juventus as his admirers.

The outlet added that Athletic Club have not given up hope of tying the pacer winger down to a new long-term contract.

Nico Williams could sign a new Bilbao contract

The Basque club’s president has now confirmed the same, stating that they expect Williams to put pen to paper on a new deal sooner rather than later.

Uriarte told DAZN about the youngster: “(The rumours are) a recurring theme. In Bilbao, we have peace of mind. We want an attractive project for Nico and other players.

“We trust that Nico will find the project attractive, and we think that’s how it’s going to be. His family is loyal to Athletic. (Staying here) is the best for his career. As for possible rumours, we have no idea.”

There is no doubt that several clubs would be watching the contract negotiations closely and some might have even reached out to Willaims’ representatives to communicate their interest, which could potentially influence the 21-year-old’s decision on whether to sign a new deal.
