History shows exactly why Tottenham see Igor Tudor as perfect mid-season pick

Igor Tudor looks set to become Tottenham Hotspur’s interim manager and his past record likely played a key role in the club’s decision-making.

Tottenham Hotspur have made hasty progress since Thomas Frank was sacked on Wednesday, as a new interim manager has already been selected.

Igor Tudor has agreed to take over at Spurs, with the Croatian getting himself back in the game after a short-lived spell at Juventus last year.

The appointment has already got the masses talking, with Tottenham supporters divided by Tudor’s appointment. This is not surprising, as the experienced manager has a very mixed record.

Igor Tudor makes a good start when he joins a new club

Tudor spent less time at Juventus than Frank did at Spurs, so Tottenham fans will feel they have every reason to question his appointment, even if it is only temporary.

However, Tudor usually does well when he is appointed in the middle of a season, and he actually made a promising start at the Serie A outfit.

The 47-year-old recorded five victories, three draws and one defeat in his first nine matches as the Juventus boss after his arrival in March last year, securing Champions League football. Interestingly, his record after nine games at Lazio the previous season was identical.

Earlier in his managerial career, Tudor managed Udinese and it was his contributions which took the side off rock bottom and saved them from relegation in the space of just six matches.

This run of undefeated fixtures was described as ‘gritty’, with the manager using a 3-4-2-1 approach that paid dividends.

Tottenham only need Igor Tudor to deliver for three months

It is hard to overlook the number of times Tudor has been sacked over the span of his 11-year career in coaching.

However, the new Spurs manager has proven himself to be effective in the short term, and that is exactly why he has been brought to North London.

Although Tudor’s recent jobs have ended badly, he will hope that Tottenham fans remember him as the man who took them away from relegation and towards a respectable position in the Premier League table.
