Hoddle compares Liverpool and Spurs transfers after losing respective CL Finals

Tottenham Hotspur took to the Champions League stage for the first time since losing the final to Liverpool in June this week.

However, despite going 2-0 up away to Olympiacos, they ended up drawing the match 2-2 after handing the home team a goal either side of half time.

Many will remember that Liverpool were on the wrong end of a Champions League final back in 2018 too and Glenn Hoddle has now applauded how they dealt with the defeat.

He claims that they went out and bought two key players in Fabinho and Alisson. The Reds also welcomed Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri, as well as giving Van Dijk time to bed in.

In short, the squad was strengthened effectively and they went on to win the competition the following year.

Spurs will be dreaming of the same thing, and although they invested some decent money in Ndombele, Lo Celso, and Sessegnon, all three have been hit by injury, limiting their effectiveness thus far.

Hoddle believes it will be a big ask for Spurs to follow in Liverpool’s footsteps (BT Sport 2 – 18/09/19 at 5:30 pm): “Liverpool went very close. What did they do? They invested in the right two players, only two players, went on, went back and won it. Can Tottenham do it? It’s going to be a big ask for them.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

I can’t say that Tottenham look strong enough to win much this season at this stage, but perhaps it would be unfair to judge until a few months in when they hopefully have their new signings fit and firing.
