Hojbjerg sends message to Eriksen after midfielder’s fairytale return for Denmark

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has taken to social media to express his delight at Christian Eriksen finding the back of the net on his return to the Denmark side.

Less than 12 months after suffering a cardiac arrest in Denmark’s Euro 2020 clash against Finland, Eriksen has resumed his professional career in the most physically demanding league in world football.

The 30-year-old has made three appearances for Brentford since signing a six-month contract with Thomas Franck’s side in January (Tranfermarkt).

The former Spurs man was recalled to the Denmark squad this week and he made an instant impact when he came on as a substitute against Holland yesterday, striking a typically arrowed shot into the top corner just a couple of minutes after his introduction following the half time break.

The Dutch eventually went on to win the match 4-2, with Steven Bergwijn bagging a brace either side of the interval.

However, Eriksen will certainly remember the game fondly despite ending up on the losing side.

Here’s how Hojbjerg reacted to the Dane’s fairytale return:

In his performances for Brentford as well as in the cameo off the bench for Denmark yesterday evening, Eriksen has shown that he still very much retains the technical quality and vision that made him one of the best attacking midfielders in the world during his time at Spurs.

If he keeps producing the same level of performances, one would expect a whole host of clubs to be after the 30-year-old’s signature in the summer.
