Nuno Espirito Santo has insisted that we need to be ‘very patient’ with all the players this season, adding that he thinks Emerson Royal ‘has to improve’.
This came despite a stand-out performance against Aston Villa this afternoon, with the former Barcelona right-back impressing the home Spurs crowd.
Emerson was not only solid at the back and aggressive in the challenge but he was also a constant outlet in attack down the right-hand side.
Nuno agreed that his summer signing had a good and stable game at the back, as well as a positive one in attack, but highlighted his timing in the box as something that needs to improve.
Tottenham beat Aston Villa 2-1, putting an end to a rotten run of three straight Premier League defeats, with the Lilywhites conceding three to each of Crystal Palace, Chelsea and Arsenal.
On Emerson, Nuno told Football London’s Alasdair Gold: “Alasdair, I think we have to be very patient with all the players.
“I honestly think he has to improve. He had a good game. He was stable, especially in the way that he controlled the width.
“He was really good going forward. I think he had moments when he should have decided better when he was in the box, but not only Emerson, I think all the team, it was important for us.
“Today was very important for us, all the boys, the fans and the way the team played, I think we should be proud.”
Spurs Web Opinion:
Nuno is the type to downplay a lot of things, I don’t think he likes to hype players up too much in order to keep them grounded. But I thought Emerson was outstanding today, probably my Man of the Match.
