‘Hopefully go on better next season’ – Danny Rose’s comments will fill fans with hope

Danny Rose has revealed that he is still reminded of Tottenham Hotspur’s failed attempt to win the Champions League every day.

It was just over a week ago when Spurs took to the field against Liverpool at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium but could not raise their game to stop themselves from suffering a 2-0 defeat to Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Rose was arguably Tottenham’s best performer in the match in Madrid as one of the very few players who looked like they could threaten Liverpool.

The left-back played a vital part in Spurs’ run to the Champions League final, making eight appearances in the prestigious European competition.

However, looking on a positive note, Rose admits that it has been a positive season for Tottenham and after securing a fourth successive top four finish in the Premier League they will once again take part in next season’s Champions League.

Rose commented on wanting to go one better next season and win the competition which is certainly a positive sign that he sees his future still in North London.

He told Sky Sports: “Last season I didn’t play as much as I wanted. This season I’ve played quite a bit, it’s been really good.

“As a whole I’m proud of what I’ve done individually and I’m over the moon about what the club has achieved as well. There have been some difficulties – no signings, playing at Wembley and I think the club and players have shown great character.

“We are in a good position for next season now and we will be raring to go because the final in Madrid was an unbelievable experience and it’s one I’d love to experience again.”

When asked about the loss to Liverpool, he added: “Obviously it hurts. You are reminded of the defeat every day so it’s disappointing but on a bigger picture, it has been a very good season for the club.

“We are playing Champions League football next season and we just came up short last weekend. Now the season’s finally finished we can reflect on that and hopefully go one further next year and lift that trophy.”

Opinion

Spurs certainly need to ensure that they hold onto Danny Rose, the player wears his heart on his sleeve and is the type of character that we need in the dressing room to move the club forwards.
