Some Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to react to Matt Doherty’s stoppage-time red card against Leeds United this afternoon.
The right-back who joined from Wolves in the summer picked up two yellow cards, including one in the dying seconds for treading on the toe of a Leeds player.
Doherty had only just won his place in the starting XI back after Serge Aurier’s mistake against Leicester City last month, with the Ivorian giving away a foolish penalty on the stroke of half-time in that match.
Aurier was nowhere to be seen at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this afternoon, with Japhet Tanganga taking his place on the bench as a right-back option.
It will now be interesting to see who Jose Mourinho trusts in the position moving forward, with both Doherty and Aurier letting themselves down recently.
Some Spurs fans didn’t seem too bothered about Doherty’s upcoming ban after he saw red, while others defended the right-back.
Advantage us

Good Aurier can come back

Bit harsh, but goes a bit over top of the ball and catches the player.
It’s a pity as I thought he’s been really good today, and annoying he’ll miss next game— It all seems a bit trivial now (@MattyFrench82) January 2, 2021
Advantage Spurs

Man only took the transfer to try and sabotage us I swear! I wonder if Norwich would be interested in a swap for Aarons!

Good, now we can play Aurier.

We can’t start Aurier every game guys. Now we lose another depth player. Hopefully Tanganga is ready if Aurier is out again

Jose’s death stare at Doherty was something I wouldn’t like to deal with in the changing rooms 😂

Classic spurs couldn’t just go a whole game with nothing going wrong could we 😂
