Alejo Veliz’s time at Tottenham Hotspur

Two summers ago, Spurs signed Alejo Veliz from Argentine side Rosario Central. Since signing for the Lilywhites, the young forward made five appearances, all from the bench.

He scored his first goal for the club against Brighton in December 2023 and has since been sent out on loan multiple times.

He was first loaned out to Sevilla in the winter window of 2024, where he made six substitute appearances before returning to Hotspur Way.

Alejo Veliz’s time on loan at Espanyol

Following a disappointing spell at Sevilla, Alejo Véliz was sent out on loan again at the start of this season—this time to Espanyol.

Véliz has now made 21 appearances, scoring four goals, including a hat-trick in the Copa del Rey, and has accumulated 1,114 minutes on the pitch.

The 21-year-old striker’s game time has been increasing at his new club, and just recently he featured for 45 minutes during Espanyol’s 2-1 loss to Real Sociedad on Sunday. While he could not help his side salvage a point, he is steadily gaining valuable minutes and experience.

What the future holds for Veliz at Spurs

While the young striker is getting more game time at Espanyol, his future at Tottenham remains uncertain.

With Spurs signing Mathys Tel and actively searching for additional reinforcements, Veliz could be set for a permanent move or another loan spell away from north London.

There had also been talk of a potential transfer to Leicester City or his loan at Espanyol being cut short in January due to his struggles in Spain. For now, Veliz is staying put in La Liga, but it is certainly a situation to watch closely as the summer window approaches.
