A look at how ‘Mini Messi’ Marcus Edwards is getting on in Holland

When Mauricio Pochettino arrived in North London, there was one stand out player in the academy who instantly caught his eye.

That young man was Marcus Edwards, then 16, but with bags on potential, with Poch famously likening him to Argentine great Lionel Messi.

Since those words were uttered, it appeared the burden became too much for Edwards, and he failed to step up his game as he progressed through the academy season.

However, the now 20-year-old may soon be on Spurs fans’ lips, as he is beginning to shine in the Eredivisie in Holland.

Edwards is currently on loan with Excelsior and, although getting off to a slow start, he is beginning to find his feet in the Netherlands.

The winger scored his first goal of the season last month and has now started the last three games, with a superb performance against Feyenoord in a 2-1 win this weekend.

In total, he has made twelve appearances in the Eredivisie, scoring one goal and providing one assist.

Should he be given a chance at Spurs next season?
