Mauricio Pochettino has lost yet another chance for a reunion with Tottenham Hotspur after the club decided to appoint Roberto De Zerbi.
Many Tottenham fans were clamouring for Pochettino’s return, as the former Spurs boss continues to be adored by the club’s supporters, nearly seven years on from his exit.
In fact, reports continued to suggest that Pochettino was the Tottenham hierarchy’s top managerial target for the summer.
However, Spurs have instead decided to bet big on Roberto De Zerbi, who has been handed a five-year contract in North London and is set to kickstart a long-term project.

Mauricio Pochettino is gutted that a Tottenham return is no longer an option
GiveMeSport have now revealed that Pochettino and De Zerbi would have been Tottenham’s two top targets if the club were making a new appointment in the summer.
However, the Spurs decided to make a permanent appointment immediately due to the precarious position they found themselves in after Igor Tudor’s inability to get a tune out of the squad.
Pochettino was not an option for Tottenham right now since his contract with the USA runs until the end of the World Cup.
The report claims that privately, the Argentine is ‘gutted’ that Spurs subbed him and decided to give the job to De Zerbi instead.
Who was Spurs’ preferred choice between De Zerbi and Pochettino?
GiveMeSport make it clear that De Zerbi had actually overtaken Pochettino as Tottenham’s top managerial target.
In fact, it is revealed that this is the third time that Spurs have tried to appoint the Italian, checking on his availability last summer and again after the sacking of Thomas Frank.
Pochettino insisted that he had not been approached by anyone at Tottenham regarding the managerial role.
