There seems to be this perception that Tottenham went out and spent huge money this summer, when in fact, it simply is not the case.
Let’s take a look at the full break down of every in and out over the summer:
Ins:
Jack Clarke – £10m (BBC).
Tanguy Ndombele £53.8m (BBC).
Ryan Sessegnon £25m (BBC).
Giovani Lo Celso (LOAN) £15.5m (Football London).
Kion Etete
Outs:
Kieran Trippier £20m (Guardian).
Vincent Janssen £6.3m (Metro).
Georges-Kevin Nkoudou £4.55m (Goal).
Jack Clarke (LOAN)
Luke Amos (LOAN)
Cameron Carter-Vickers (LOAN)
Kazaiah Sterling (LOAN)
George Marsh (LOAN)
Anthony Georgiou (LOAN)
Fernando Llorente
Michel Vorm
Marcus Edwards
Connor Ogilvie
Dylan Duncan
Thomas Glover
Charlie Freeman
Jamie Reynolds
Josh Onomah (PART EXCHANGE)
So, if we calculate the net spend for Spurs this summer, the club only actually spent £73.45m. If we take into account the fact that Ndombele came in to replace Dembele who was sold for £11m back in January (BBC), that figure goes down to £62.45m. I am sure there are also loan fees to add on top of this. While £60m is nothing to turn your nose up at, I would have liked to see Levy spend between £100m and £150m to really have a go at the title this season.
