How Ryan Mason is getting on at West Brom, six months after leaving Tottenham

Things are not going to plan for former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder and coach Ryan Mason at West Bromwich Albion.

Mason’s long association with Spurs – first as an academy player, then a first-team star, an academy coach, and finally as a first-team coach – ended in the summer on a high as the Lilywhites lifted the Europa League trophy.

West Brom offered the 34-year-old his first opportunity in a permanent first-team management role, which he decided to take.

Since then, Mason has admitted that he knew it was the right time to say goodbye after Tottenham’s Europa League triumph in Bilbao, but things are not going to plan for him at the Hawthorns.

Tottenham fan favourite Ryan Mason is struggling at West Brom

While the Baggies had a decent start to the season, they are currently in the middle of a poor run of form.

They have won just two of their last nine league games, and as a result, Mason’s men have dropped down to 16th place in the Championship table.

However, Football Insider claim that despite the club’s mixed results this season, the West Brom hierarchy are not considering sacking Mason for now.

The former Tottenham assistant coach has the backing of the club’s leadership, who want to give him time to turn around the team’s fortunes.

Mason has the support of the West Brom players

Football Insider say that the Baggies squad is still ‘firmly’ behind Mason despite the team’s poor results of late.

The fact that the former Tottenham assistant coach has the back of his players is seen as a major vote of confidence by the club’s board.

In fact, it is asserted that the West Brom leadership are ready to back Mason with funds in January so that he can improve the squad.
