How Scott McTominay feels about Tottenham transfer rumours after Napoli success

Tottenham Hotspur have been told whether Scott McTominay would be interested in a return to the Premier League in January.

Thomas Frank has three solid central midfielders at his disposal in Rodrigo Bentancur, Joao Palhinha and Pape Sarr.

However, Spurs are struggling for options beyond that as Archie Gray is only 19 years of age, while Yves Bissouma does not appear to be in Frank’s plans.

It thus comes as no surprise that Tottenham are thought to be eyeing a number six in January, and over recent days it has been suggested that Spurs could make a move for Napoli star Scott McTominay.

What is Scott McTominay thinking about Tottenham’s interest?

The Lilywhites’ interest in the former Man United man is now new, with Tottenham also exploring a move for McTomminay when he left Old Trafford in 2024 to join Napoli.

However, journalist Sacha Tavolieri has now claimed that the Scotsman, who has been one of the standout players in Serie A over the past 15 months, has no interest in leaving Napoli in January.

Tavolieri told Sky Sports: “While several English media outlets have reported growing interest in Scott McTominay from Tottenham and other Premier League clubs in recent days, the Scottish midfielder appears in no rush to leave Napoli.

“According to our sources, the player’s entourage has firmly denied rumours of a possible return to England, stating that McTominay is extremely happy in Campania. Despite approaches from some English clubs, McTominay has no intention of leaving Napoli in the short term.”

Napoli could make move to ward off Spurs’ interest in McTominay

Tavolieri went on to explain that Antonio Conte’s side value the midfielder’s influence both on and off the pitch very highly.

He suggested that the Serie A champions could thus offer McTominay a new deal to prevent Premier League clubs from trying to poach him away.

The journalist added about the 28-year-old’s situation: “A contract extension is not out of the question in the coming months. The player, under contract until 2028, would like to sign a long-term contract with the Partenopei club, attracted by the project and the passion surrounding the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

“The Neapolitan management, for their part, appreciate his exemplary mindset and his influence in the dressing room. If Scotland have found a pillar for their national team in McTominay, Napoli seem to have found a new warrior in midfield – determined to make their mark on Serie A.”
