How Spurs can qualify for the Champions League knockouts – All permutations

Tottenham Hotspur face a make-or-break must-win tie in the Champions League tonight as they take on the might of Barcelona.

This would be tricky enough if Spurs weren’t facing them away from home at the iconic Camp Nou.

Spurs must at least match any result Inter Milan get against PSV to snatch that final knockouts place.

Thanks to their win against Inter last time out, Spurs will now beat the Italians on head to head if they finish on level points.

Here are all the permutations that lead to Tottenham celebrations tonight.

Tottenham win – Inter win

By far the most realistic way in which Tottenham could qualify in second place in the group. Inter are unlikely not to pick up a win against bottom of the table PSV, so Spurs will probably need a win to get the job done.

Tottenham win – Inter draw/loss

A win for Spurs and dropped points for Inter will obviously also result in Tottenham celebrations.

Tottenham draw – Inter draw

A draw could be enough for Spurs away to Barca, but only if PSV manage to get a point against Inter.

Tottenham draw – Inter loss

This would obviously result in Tottenham’s qualification too as they would be achieving a better result than their Italian counterparts.

Tottenham loss – Inter loss

It is possible that Spurs could lose and still go through, but they would be praying on a PSV miracle.
