How Tottenham starting XI could look for 2025/26 Premier League opener after seven signings

Three new signings could transform Tottenham’s starting XI at the beginning of the 2025/26 Premier League season – here’s how Spurs could lineup come August.

After a historic end to the 2024/25 season that saw Tottenham Hotspur end their 17-year wait for silverware and their four-decade wait for a European trophy, focus now turns to how Spurs can build on their recent success.

Of course, it was not all rosy last campaign, as the Lilywhites struggled domestically, finishing their League season in 17th place, a result they would have to improve on.

The summer window and pre-season afford Tottenham the perfect opportunity to do just that, as the north London club would need to be busy, bringing in top players while also getting rid of a few, as they look to rebuild.

Now, here at Spurs Web, we have put together a hypothetical starting XI that Ange Postecoglou could name for the opening game of the 2025/26 campaign, and it’s a pretty exciting lineup.

Potential Tottenham starting XI for Premier League season

Guglielmo Vicario

Spurs still have a solid option in goal going into next season in Guglielmo Vicario, who is not just their shot-stopper but also one of the leaders in this group. So we expect Ange Postecoglou to stick with him, while Antonin Kinsky continues to develop as his understudy.

Pedro Porro

It was a mixed season for Pedro Porro, who struggled domestically like every Spurs player but was instrumental in the club’s Europa League run. He was one of the few players who managed to go through last season unscathed without an injury, and we expect Porro will be in the Spurs’ starting XI, despite some interest from Manchester City.

Marc Guehi

If Cristian Romero does indeed leave Tottenham, then a replacement who is Premier League-proven would be needed to fill the void left by the Argentine. Spurs are still linked with a move for Marc Guehi, with the latest reports now stating that Champions League football is set to give Ange Postecoglou’s side an edge.

Micky van de Ven

Tottenham would need to start the season strongly next time out, and if they are to do that, they would need their best defensive partnership, which Micky van de Ven is a part of. Hopefully, he stays fit.

Destiny Udogie

It could potentially be four of the usual back five lining up in defence next season, and we expect Destiny Udogie to continue as Tottenham’s main left-back, despite Manchester City’s interest in Udogie.

Johnny Cardoso

Tottenham are said to be interested in signing players in three key positions, and the midfield is one of those that the Lilywhites are looking to strengthen. Spurs have a buy clause for Johnny Cardoso, one that could potentially be triggered, leaving him as the club’s six next season – but only if Tottenham can beat Atletico Madrid to his signature.

Rodrigo Bentancur

Rodrigo Bentancur would take the slot as one of the centre midfielders in what could be a 4-3-3 formation. Of course, his start to the 2024/25 season was abysmal, but he finished it strongly, and hopefully that carries on into next season.

James Maddison

James Maddison was one of Tottenham’s few sources of goals last spell, with the attacking midfielder grabbing 22 goal contributions. The Englishman would be racing against time to be fit for the new season, with his knee injury expected to rule him out for three months.

Eberechi Eze

Spurs have been continually linked with Eberechi Eze, and this summer is no different as Tottenham are once more in the race to sign the Crystal Palace talisman. Hopefully, this summer is the time they get it done. Should he sign, he could be the Heung-min Son replacement the Lilywhites have long been searching for. It sure would be exciting to watch, especially under the lights in the Champions League.

Dominic Solanke

Up top, it should be business as usual, with Dominic Solanke leading the line. Hopefully, he can score more goals with greater creativity around him.

Dejan Kulusevski

The Swede was instrumental for Tottenham last season for at least the first six months, before fatigue caught up with him. He definitely would need more rest and rotation around him if Tottenham are to get the most out of him, but he could be the player starting on the right at the beginning of the season.

Spurs potential second XI for Premier League season

With the starting XI all set, let us have a look at the bench or the second XI, so to speak, because Tottenham, for sure, would need a bigger squad if they are to compete on all fronts.

Here are the players that we expect in Spurs’ second XI: Antonin Kinsky; Kyle Walker-Peters, Kevin Danso, Koni de Winter, Djed Spence; Angel Gomes, Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray; Brennan Johnson, Heung-min Son, Leroy Sane
