‘Huge for him’ – Alasdair Gold reveals what he has heard about Cristian Romero

Alasdair Gold has been told that Cristian Romero has made a real effort to integrate himself at Tottenham by constantly communicating with every player in the squad.

One would have expected Romero to take some time to settle into life in the Premier League, having arrived from the Serie A last summer.

However, the centre-back has taken to the competition like fish to water, thanks in part to his physical style and the intensity with which he plays.

The 24-year-old produced one of his best displays in a Spurs shirt in the 3-1 win over Leicester on Sunday.

Not only was he solid defensively but he also won two full-blooded challenges in quick succession that enabled the home side to break on the Foxes and score their second.

Spurs fans will certainly be excited about what is to come from the Argentine international. Gold has now revealed it is not just on the pitch that Romero is settling in, but off it as well.

The journalist claimed the defender makes an effort to communicate regularly with all of his teammates.

The journalist said on his YouTube channel: “That’s what I’ve heard about Romero. His English is getting there, it’s not great, but it’s getting there.

“But what he’s made a real attempt to do is just to try and communicate with everyone in the squad. He doesn’t leave anyone out, and doesn’t have any clique.

“Obviously, the South Americans are going to be that little bit closer because of their shared background I guess.

“But that’s what I keep hearing, is that he really tries to integrate himself into the squad. And that’s huge for him going forward.”

We have seen some players (like Lo Celso and Ndombele for example) not make a similar effort and often just stick with a group that they are comfortable with. If Romero is indeed making it a point to communicate with everyone, that suggests that he possesses real leadership qualities and could be a future captain.
