Hugo Lloris admits he has been impressed with Man Utd midfielder

Tottenham Hotspur captain Hugo Lloris believes that Paul Pogba possesses strong leadership abilities.

Lloris lined up in the same French starting eleven as the Manchester United midfielder in Sunday’s UEFA Nations League match against Portugal.

Despite Lloris skippering his country from goal, he revealed that he was impressed with Pogba’s vocal presence on the pitch after he completed the full ninety minutes in front of an empty Stade de France.

The 0-0 draw represented the first time in which Pogba had represented his country after suffering from injuries along with the impact of the coronavirus pandemic upon the footballing calendar.

The Spurs keeper had to be alert right up to the very last minute when he saved well at his near post to deny Cristiano Ronaldo what would have been the winning goal.

Lloris and Pogba squared off against each other prior to the international break when Tottenham thrashed Manchester United 6-1 at Old Trafford.

Lloris told M6 about Pogba as quoted by the Manchester Evening News: “Very present, he wanted the ball.

“He put on his voice. He is a leader, and we felt it.

“After a year of absence, we felt him in the legs. But he was fine.”

He added: “There was a high quality opponent in front. In the second half, we played higher and there was a lot more activity.

“In the first half there was a tendency to retreat, perhaps because of the fear. Afterwards, there was quality in the other side. Everyone had their period.

“In the last 30 metres, we lacked sharpness. We would have preferred to win, but it’s a solid performance.”
