Hugo Lloris outlines how Spurs must avoid Europa League football

It was not long ago that Spurs fans were all really excited about the possibility of a title challenge. Tottenham had a great opportunity to put pressure on the front two as they seemed to be peaking at the right time.

However, 3 defeats in 4 games has left Spurs with a massive fight on their hands just to secure Champions League football for next season.

Tottenham’s defeat to Southampton and Arsenal’s subsequent win over Manchester United means that Spurs now find themselves just a single point ahead of their North London rivals.

With Spurs, Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea, all competing for two places in the top 4, the race will probably go right down to the wire.

Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris has admitted that now that Tottenham’s 10-point cushion has disappeared, they will need to win all their remaining matches to finish in the top 4.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Lloris said, “Yes, it’s been four games now without a win. Especially against a team that you expect to get points from. It’s tough to lose games and it makes things very complicated for us.

“We had a good gap in the months before, now it has reduced and, like I said, we don’t have a joker [card] anymore. We need to win every game until the end.”

The Frenchman, however, refused to discuss the consequences of missing out on Champions League football next season.

He added, “It’s too early to talk about that. I don’t want to talk about supposition, we will see what happens and we will see what we will deserve.

“We are still in the race and that is the most important thing, but for sure we need to change something, especially away from home.”
