Hugo Lloris reacts as Spurs ‘throw away all the effort’ made in recent weeks against Brighton

Hugo Lloris has claimed that Tottenham threw away the strides made in recent weeks by producing a flat display in the 1-0 defeat to Brighton.

Antonio Conte’s men missed the chance to strengthen their grip on fourth place in the Premier League table by losing to the Seagulls, who also claimed victory at Arsenal last week.

Spurs were stifled by Brighton throughout and failed to have a single shot on target in Saturday’s encounter as Leandro Trossard poked in a late winner for the away side.

And captain Lloris felt Spurs put out a ‘very average’ performance when the stakes were high, adding it is something his side needs to learn from with six games of the campaign remaining.

He told the club via Twitter: “It has been a very average performance, to be honest. The only regret is in that type of game if you cannot win you don’t lose, that’s the key.

“We are always talking about consistency. It can happen to have a bad, but to throw away all the effort that we made in the last few weeks by losing this game is a big disappointment.

“The only thing is to look forward now. There is one week to prepare for the next battle and important to analyse the performance, to learn from this game because I think it will happen again [against] that type of team already safe in the Premier League that play with freedom.

“We can only blame ourselves and continue to work.”

Tottenham will look to bounce back from defeat when they travel to Brentford next Saturday evening. The Bees have enjoyed a strong spell of recent form, with former Spurs midfielder Christian Eriksen inspiring his side away from the relegation zone.

When a positive result was needed, Spurs simply froze and never came close to troubling a very organised Brighton side. They need to put this behind them and not let it affect them with games starting to run out and points becoming more and more crucial at this stage.
