Hugo Lloris reveals whether he predicted Harry Kane would reach such heights

Hugo Lloris has lavished praise on Harry Kane for the way he influences games when dropping deep but admitted he did not see the striker reaching such heights when he first came across him at Tottenham.

Lloris has seen Kane’s growth as a player first-hand, with the striker looking a long way off the first team when the Frenchman first arrived at the club.

Since then, the goalkeeper has seen Kane become a first-team regular, transition into one of the most important players in the team, become one of the best strikers in the world, and be named captain of his country.

Over the last couple of years, the 28-year-old has continued adding more strings to his bow, becoming better at influencing games while dropping deep.

Kane is now finally beginning to get praise for his vision and his passing range, and Lloris insisted his Tottenham teammate is one of the best in the world at what he does.

When asked if he saw Kane becoming this good when he first came across the striker, the Spurs captain told Premier League Productions (20/03/22 at 6:45 pm): “It was difficult to predict. He always had this skill to finish well in front of the goal.

“The way he plays, during the past few years, he drops more often and gives more space to the players around him.

“In the way we play, under Antonio Conte, the number nine position is very important. It can demand the ball in space, but also has this interference to drop. Then, in one touches or two touches to change the game, from one side to the other side.

“I think this is the evolution of Harry. A little bit like Karim Benzema used to do or Firmino used to do. But that belongs to the best players.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I would argue that Kane’s passing range is better than the likes of Benzema and Firmino and comparable to the likes of Kevin De Bryne. World-class goalscorers like the 28-year-old can be selfish and prefer to stay in the box but the way Kane has adapted his game shows how much of a team-man he is.
