Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris believes that new club-record signing Tanguy Ndombele will need time to adjust to English football. Ndombele has had an inconsistent start to his Spurs career, but has shown flashes of his huge potential across the four games in which he has appeared.
Lloris said (Football.London): “I think you have to give him time to adapt to the new philosophy and new football approach, but one thing is sure, he has a massive potential – you only have had to watch his skills in his two games to realise that – and he is ready to help the team,”
“I have no doubt he will show his skills and quality in this Champions League campaign.
“You maybe need more time to adapt to the Premier League, mainly because of the intensity but in the Champions League, he has the experience he made with Lyon.
“He had some great games in this competition with them. Every competition is different but we have the ambition to win every competition we are involved in.”
Ndombele impressed last season for Lyon, especially in the Champions League. He dominated Manchester City’s midfield both times the two clubs met in the group stage.
However, he has appeared to struggle with the intensity of the English game at times since his transfer. Ndombele also looked sloppy and sluggish against Olympiacos during his first game back from injury.
Lloris will know what Ndombele is going through, having made the same switch from Lyon to Tottenham seven years ago. Spurs fans will have to hope that their new signing will end up being as successful for the club as their captain has been.
Spurs Web Opinion
It is nice to see Lloris show his countryman some support. It is clear that Ndombele has huge potential and he will hopefully tear up the league for Spurs. However, Mauricio Pochettino’s system is very demanding so the midfielder will take some time to adjust.
