Hutton reveals the one player he is looking forward to watching next season at Spurs

Former Tottenham defender, Alan Hutton, believes that Giovani Lo Celso could become a top player for the club next season.

The Argentine initially joined on a loan move from Real Betis last summer before Tottenham took up the option to make the deal permanent during the January transfer window.

While the midfielder initially struggled with injury problems and had trouble forcing his way into the side, he has thrived under Mourinho since January, arguably becoming Tottenham’s best player.

Lo Celso has been praised by Jose Mourinho for his displays and Hutton insisted that he has been the only bright spark amidst an otherwise forgettable season for Spurs.

The ex-Spurs right-back added that we are yet to see the best of the 23-year-old in a Spurs shirt and he expects Lo Celso to push on next season.

Speaking to Football Insider, the former Scotland international said: “I think it’s just been a poor season, I think people would just like to write it off.

“Ones like Lo Celso, I think he went under-the-radar at the start and now we’re seeing, not the best, we’re seeing what’s to come.

“He’s the one I’m looking forward to maybe next season. He started off slow but again, it’s probably just getting used to the Premier League and Tottenham not having the best of times, it’s going to be difficult.

“Over the past month or two – playing month or two – he kind of came into his own, against Leipzig in the first game he was the star man.

“He’s a guy that I think who’s got all the quality needed to be a top player at Tottenham and going forward. He’s one I’m looking forward to watching.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The fact that Lo Celso is actually the favourite to win our Player of the Season award despite rarely making the starting eleven for the first half of the season, tells you all you need to know about how poor a season we’ve had. I have been particularly impressed with the Argentine’s tenacity and work rate as I expected him to be a bit of a luxury player when we first bought him.
