‘I am a close second’ – Dele reveals who is Spurs’ most skilful player

Dele Alli admitted on his own Instagram live (22/08/21) that Steven Bergwijn is ‘the most skilful player’ at Tottenham Hotspur.

Dele himself is well renowned for his skill and trickery but he has admitted the 23-year-old is even better, while putting himself in as a ‘close second’.

Bergwijn had a tough first full season in England. Despite playing 21 games in the Premier League, his actual output was underwhelming. The winger only scored one goal in the Premier League, which came against Aston Villa in the penultimate match of the season.

The Dutchman, however, is clearly in Nuno’s immediate plans after he has started the two opening Premier League games under the new head coach.

During the match against Wolves, Bergwijn produced one moment of magic which certainly made him worthy of Dele’s statement.

Pinned up against the touchline, the winger came out with an outrageous bit of instinctive trickery to roll the ball towards the by-line before poking it past Max Kilman to then run in-towards goal.

Dele was asked on his Instagram live who is ‘the most skilful player’ is at Spurs.

He said: “The most skilful player at Spurs?

“It’s Stevie Bergwijn. I would give it to Stevie. Then I am a close second.”

This is a big season for Bergwijn as he failed to produce last season. Nuno clearly likes and trusts him. That skill, however, was outrageous and was a timely reminder of the obvious raw talent. It is now a case of turning that into consistent output.
