‘I am a competitor who wants to win’ – Spurs star wants to aim high this season

Emerson Royal wants Tottenham Hotspur to ‘fight for everything’ this season and ‘aim high’ in terms of ambition.

Spurs sit fifth in the Premier League table with 26 points in 13 games. They started the season on fire, winning eight from their first ten, but have been brought back down to earth with three successive defeats against Chelsea, Wolves and Aston Villa.

Injuries and suspensions certainly haven’t helped Tottenham’s cause. Visiting the defending champions, Manchester City, next is also not the most ideal prospect.

Tottenham aren’t in any European competition this season and have already been knocked out of the Carabao Cup, with only the Premier League and FA Cup to compete in.

Despite three straight defeats, the Lilywhites remain just four points behind the leaders Arsenal and will still fancy their chances of climbing the table once more once European football returns.

Emerson Royal wants Spurs to ‘aim higher’

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Sky Sports, Emerson Royal wants Tottenham Hotspur to be ambitious, keep ‘aiming higher’ and ‘fight for everything’.

He said: “I like to think game by game, but I am very confident in this group. We have a great team with good players. We have a manager who has a really good style of play.

“We are among the best teams right now and we are fighting. I hope we can fight for everything this season. As I said, I am a competitor who wants to win. So, why not? We are going to fight to be in the best position possible.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is very clear that Postecoglou’s optimism is very infectious and seems to be rubbing on his players as well. Emerson’s words convey a sense of utmost self-confidence within the Spurs dressing room.

As Spurs fans, we’ve yearned for times like these where our team puts out a confident, imposing demeanour. Three successive losses aren’t going to change a thing. Let’s hope we can come up with a performance to remember against Manchester City this weekend.
