‘I am open for every decision’ – Conte assumes responsibility for poor Spurs form

Antonio Conte has reiterated he is trying to improve Tottenham’s situation and is keen on assuming responsibility for the club’s poor run of Premier League form following defeat at Burnley.

Spurs were beaten 1-0 by the Clarets at Turf Moor on Wednesday, with Ben Mee’s second-half tally the lone goal on a wretched night in Lancashire.

The visitors struggled to impose themselves on proceedings with their best chance of the night dropping on the head of Harry Kane, whose header crashed off the bar just after the interval.

The defeat, which saw them fail to capitalise on last Saturday’s scalp win over Manchester City, is Tottenham’s fourth in the last five games which has seen them fail to maintain momentum in the race for the top four.

Following the match, Conte admitted he is working hard to see change in the way Spurs are currently performing and is keen on taking responsibility for the club’s recent shortcomings.

He said (via Football.London): “But the problem, I repeat: I’m trying to do everything to change the situation but the situation is not changing.

“Someone has to speak about the race for the fourth place, and the reality from the last five games is we have to pay attention to not fight for the relegation zone.

“This is the truth. this is the reality, and when this type of situation happens, maybe there is something wrong.

“I don’t want to close my eyes, I want to take my responsibility, if I have the responsibility. I am open, I am open for every decision because I want to help Tottenham.”

Spurs will be looking to arrest their poor form when they visit Marcelo Bielsa’s struggling Leeds United for this Saturday’s early kick-off.

Tottenham need to be beating sides like Burnley if they are to stand a chance of reaching the Champions League. It has been a case of losing these games in recent seasons which has cost Spurs and it hasn’t worked recently under Conte either. He has to assume some blame, but of course, it doesn’t just fall on his shoulders.
