‘I believe in Gil’ – Conte compares Bryan to Man City midfield star

Antonio Conte has lavished praise on Brayn Gil in his press conference this afternoon, even comparing the winger to Man City midfielder, Bernardo Silva.

Gil has rarely been used by Conte since his arrival in North London, with the Spanish youngster being loaned out to Valencia for the second half of last season.

However, Gil was handed a cameo in the Champions League against Sporting Lisbon this week, impressing with his direct running in the final 20 minutes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

With Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison out injured, and Lucas Moura only just returning from a problem of his own, Gil provided a breath of fresh air down the right side.

While Conte admitted he was unsure about Gil’s future at Tottenham, likely referring to whether he could go out on loan, he also revealed that he has seen improvements in the winger recently.

Conte said (Football London): “I believe in Gil otherwise I don’t risk a player in the Champions League. I try to find the right moment for when he can be useful for the situation.

“I have seen good improvement. I am sure about Gil’s future because we are talking about a player who sees football.

“If I have to compare Gil with someone, maybe I can see him like Bernardo Silva at City. For me in this moment physically he is not strong but we are talking about this type of player.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

I appreciate that Gil is not ready to start big games, and he often looks a little lost from the start. But as a super-sub when you are behind and in need of something a little different, he seems perfect. I hope to see more of him off the bench in the Premier League.
