‘I don’t care about the pressure’ – Poch on North London Derby

Tottenham Hotspur face Arsenal this weekend in the latest North London Derby, but head into the match off the back of two straight defeats.

Perhaps this is the perfect time to play Arsenal, or perhaps it is the worst, only time will tell. What is certain is the importance of this particular tie.

Spurs have been comfortable in third place in the Premier League for some time now, but this would be severely threatened by an Arsenal win.

The Gunners currently sit four points below Spurs, with a win taking them just a point behind. Chelsea and Man United are also lurking not far behind Arsenal.

If Tottenham win, they go a long way to cementing that third place spot. If they lose, they could be dragged all the way back into a fight for the Champions League places.

Despite all this at stake, Pochettino claims he doesn’t care about the pressure.

He said (Football London): “Today Chelsea and Arsenal are the same level in terms of rivalry. When we are playing Fulham, Watford, West Ham, Arsenal, Chelsea… they’re all London derbies. Of course we are going to try and win the game because it’s so important for the fans.

“But today was so important for the fans and Burnley was important for the fans too. For the fans all the games are important. Of course the rivalry is so important because of the history, but every game, for us, is so important and the next one against Arsenal will be important.

“I don’t care about the pressure to play against Arsenal, Chelsea or Burnley. It’s the same feeling for me. We need to be ready to compete and give our best. If we can win on Saturday, I’ll be more than happy. If we don’t win, I’ll be as disappointed as I am now and as I was against Burnley.”
