‘I don’t know if he will sign’ – Club owner provides update on Spurs-linked Vlahovic

Fiorentina owner Rocco Commisso has revealed that the club have offered rumoured Tottenham target Dusan Vlahovic a lucrative new contract but admitted he is unsure whether the striker will sign the deal.

Vlahovic was rumoured to be a target for Spurs during the summer transfer window when Harry Kane’s future at the club looked in doubt.

Alasdair Gold even claimed at the time that the Fiorentina man was Fabio Paratici’s number one striker target.

However, Spurs managed to hold on to Kane while Vlahovic ended up staying put at the Artemio Franchi Stadium.

The Serbian has started the season in fine form, having netted six goals in seven matches for the Viola so far in all competitions.

It was reported last week by Gazzetta dello Sport (as relayed by Sport Witness) that Vlahovic was showing some reluctance in putting pen to paper on a new contract with Viola.

The 21-year-old’s current deal runs out in the summer of 2023 and Commisso has now insisted that the club are relaxed over the striker’s future.

He told TuttoMercatoWeb (as translated by Viola Nation): “I don’t know if he (Vlahovic) will sign, we’re calm. We’ve been working on it for months, with some days positive, others not.

“I speak with Dusan and he tells me he only wants to focus on the pitch and to talk with his agent, but I speak with the agent and he tells me to talk to the player.”

“We have offered him a 5-year contract worth €40m (£34.4m), I worked a year to make what this makes in 2-3 days.

“What I can say is it is the largest contract ever offered to a Fiorentina player, including Batistuta and Rui Costa.”

When asked if he is annoyed by the situation, Commisso responded: “A little bit, yes. Fiorentina is not just Vlahovic, there is the group and we want to stay concentrated.”

Spurs Web Opinion

If Vlahovic does not sign a new deal over the next couple of months, Fiorentina might well be tempted to cash in on the striker in January in order to get as high a value as they can for him. However, it remains to be seen if Paratici will move for Vlahovic now that City appear unlikely to reignite their interest in Kane.
