“I don’t know if he will stay” – Team-mate responds about Spurs target’s future

Atalanta defender Berat Djimsiti has admitted that he is unsure if rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Cristian Romero will still be at the Italian club next season.

Tottenham have reportedly been locked in talks with Atalanta over a deal for the defender in the last few days.

Sources from Italy claim that there is still a significant difference between Spurs’ and Atalanta’s valuations of centre-back and that the North Londoners have to ‘up the ante’ to land the Argentine international after their offer of €50m (£42.8m) including bonuses was rejected by the Serie A club.

However, Alasdair Gold has revealed on his YouTube Channel that there is increasing confidence at Spurs that they can pull off a deal for the 23-year-old.

Djimsiti, who formed a formidable partnership with Romero at the back for Atlanta last season, showered praise on his teammate but admitted that he is not sure if he will be at Bergamo next season.

When asked about the speculation surrounding Romero’s future, the Swiss international told La Gazzetta dello Sport (as relayed by Football Italia): “I don’t know if he will stay, what I can say is that Cuti is an excellent defender and a great person.

“I’ve always felt at ease with him and I wish him the best regardless of what will happen.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Alasdair Gold’s latest update should fill Spurs fans with optimism. Hopefully, we will see the Argentine join Gollini in N17 within the next few days.

I do not expect Romero to be the only centre-half we sign this summer as I believe Davinson Sanchez will follow Toby Alderweireld out of the club.
