Bryan King, who previously worked as a scout for Tottenham Hotspur, believes that his former employers will be making a mistake by signing Nico Williams this summer.
While Williams has been thought of as an exciting prospect for many years, the winger has shown signs of coming off age at Athletic Club Bilbao this season, having managed six goals and 14 assists so far (Transfermarkt).
Various outlets have reported over the last few weeks that the 21-year-old has a release clause of €50m (£42.8m) and that Tottenham are contemplating activating it when the transfer window opens in June (The Telegraph).
However, Spurs are not the only ones thought to be eyeing the Spain international, with the likes of Aston Villa (GiveMeSport) and Barcelona (Football Espana) also said to be admirers of the winger.

Should Tottenham invest heavily in Nico Williams?
King believes that Tottenham should not be spending a big fee on another wide player and urged the Lilywhites to spend that money on a central midfielder such as Conor Gallagher instead.
He told Tottenham News: “I don’t think signing Williams would be a wise investment for Tottenham. There are enough wide players already at the club, I don’t see the sense in bringing in another one.
“Tottenham need to be more focussed on spending that money in central positions, both in midfield and going forward. I wouldn’t be focussed on Williams, definitely not for £42.8million. Put that money toward someone else, someone such as Gallagher.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I do not think it is an either/or situation as Tottenham will likely be in the market for a wide-forward as well as a number eight this summer (in addition to a number six to compete with Yves Bissouma and a fouth-choice centre-back).
