‘I don’t sleep’ – Conte opens up on his commitment to fixing Tottenham

Antonio Conte has told the press (via Football.London) that he isn’t sleeping at the moment, as he attempts to turn fortunes around for Tottenham Hotspur and improve results on the pitch.

Tottenham may still be firmly in the race for the top four this season and have the knockout stages of the Champions League to look forward to, but there is growing frustration among the fanbase due to inconsistent results and poor performances.

Having now conceded first in their last ten games, there is a worrying pattern of Spurs not turning up in the first half and the team’s approach to games has come into question.

The lacklustre performance on Sunday against Aston Villa and resulting defeat appeared to be something of a turning point for many fans, who voiced their anger towards the board and the manager.

With Conte’s contract due to expire at the end of the season, there have also been doubts as to whether the 53-year-old is committed to the cause at Spurs (Telegraph), but he has put that to bed in his latest comments.

He said: “I understand that fans many times don’t have patience but we have to do it, stay together and continue to work in the best possible way. What I can promise is great work, to be focussed for Tottenham. I don’t sleep for Tottenham. This has to be very clear.

“I don’t sleep, because when I go into a situation I go 120% and I’m not sleeping for Tottenham to try to improve the situation, but if you ask me to tell you lies or to send a message or to tell lies to our fans, I’m not the right person, because my family gave me this lesson: tell the truth and with the truth you can always go forward with your head held up.”

While it’s great that Conte is so committed to fixing the issues right now and is discussing them so openly, I do hope he is actually sleeping a little bit. I’m sure he’s being hyperbolic by saying he’s not sleeping, but a tired manager is not going to be the answer to any of this.
