‘I don’t think it is fair’ – Mourinho says he is ‘not happy’ with mid-season rule change

Jose Mourinho has revealed that he is unhappy with the recent change to the offisde rule in the Premier League, despite the fact that he agrees with the rule itself.

The Premier League recently chose to change a section of the offside rule after controversy in the Man City vs Aston Villa match last week.

In the build-up to Bernardo Silva’s goal, Rodri won possession from Tyrone Mings despite being in an offside position when the ball was played.

It was deemed, correctly according to the rules at the time, that Mings had purposely played the ball, thus rendering Rodri onside.

However, after outcry from supporters, the Professional Game Match Officials Board decided to tweak the rules, meaning that the same situation would result in an offside plan from now on (Guardian).

While Mourinho claims that the rules are now corrected, he added that it was unfair to change rules halfway through a season.

He said (Football London): “Not happy with.

“I believe that now is right and previously not right but I don’t think it is fair you change the rule in the season.”
