‘I feel happy when good players sign for my club’ – Sandro on Spurs’ January business

Former Tottenham midfielder Sandro has expressed his delight at the Lilywhites snapping up Pedro Porro, stating that the right-back has all the attributes to be successful in the Premier League.

The negotiations between Tottenham and Sporting for Porro had several hiccups over the course of January but the North London club managed to get the deal over the line on transfer deadline day.

Spurs fans will be hoping that the 23-year-old adds a different dimension to the team’s attack from right wing-back, and the numbers certainly seem to suggest he will, with the Spaniard having created more than three times the number of chances as both Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal combined this season (talkSPORT).

Sandro, who now plies his trade in Lisbon for Sporting’s city neighbours, Belenenses, admitted that the 23-year-old has caught his eye.

Although the former Spurs midfielder missed both of his side’s clashes against Ruben Amorim’s team this season due to injury, he watched on from the sidelines as Porro got on the scoresheet in the latter of those two games – a 4-1 win for Sporting.

When asked about Tottenham’s newest addition, the 33-year-old, who is affectionately known as ‘the beast’ by Spurs fans, told the club’s official website: “I have to say, when Spurs played Sporting in Lisbon, I was in the stadium. I saw this guy, he’s an amazing player.

“I’ve watched him a lot, and we played against him here last season. Against Tottenham, I thought, ‘wow, he’s playing well, he can be a great player’. I’m happy for him to come to Spurs. I think he can help us and do very, very well in the Premier League.

“He’s fast, he drives forward, he can dribble. He can help at the back and start the attacking action very well. He can also finish the attacking action, lots of assists, lots of goals. Going forward… man, he’s quick! I feel happy when good players sign for my club!”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is touching to see that Sandro still refers to Spurs as ‘us’ and ‘my club’. The 33-year-old remains one of my favourite Tottenham players of all time because of the connection he had with the fans, and his career could have been a lot different if he had not suffered knee problems.
