‘I guarantee’ – Chris Sutton expects Spurs fans to make one complaint next season

Chris Sutton believes that we will hear a section of the Tottenham fans complaining about the team being too open next season.

Last summer, Spurs fans were crying out for a manager who plays attractive football after having endured an extremely dull and negative approach under the likes of Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte in the previous three years.

They got their wish as Daniel Levy and the board hit the jackpot with the appointment of Ange Postecoglou, who has made Tottenham the Premier League’s biggest entertainers.

The Australian is not one to abandon his attacking principles under any circumstances as he showed against Chelsea last November, with the Lilywhites continuing to press the Blues high up the pitch and commit bodies in attack despite being down to nine men.

What can Tottenham achieve next season?

As a result of their hyper-aggressive approach, Spurs have been exposed defensively on occasions, having conceded 36 goals in 24 games so far. Sutton predicted that some Spurs supporters will start calling for Postecoglou to be more cautious next season.

The former Celtic striker said on BBC’s The Monday Night Club: “I think we are at a stage where fans want absolutely everything now. They want the lot. I guarantee you next season there will be Tottenham fans under Postecoglou who will say that they need to be a bit more pragmatic. Wait and see.”

One can understand where Sutton is coming from as fans’ expectations will change quite quickly and some might start demanding that Postecoglou tweak things if we are not in a position to compete with the top teams next season.

In fact, a section of Spurs fans have already started calling for the Australian to be more cautious in the latter part of matches rather than committing bodies forward. However, we know that Ange is not going to change his preferred approach irrespective of the outside noise.
